Bio
Conor Hayes is an Irish music producer, musician, and engineer. Originally a guitarist in a number of indie, rock, grunge, and punk bands throughout the 1990s, he transitioned from recording on 4-track tape to digital production using Cubase VST 32, creating primarily electronic music under the name Splintboy from 2001 to 2012.
A formative influence on Hayes was the sound of Warp Records in the late 1990s, especially Aphex Twin through to the industrial soundscapes of Nine Inch Nails.
Splintboy’s creations are often mid-tempo, blending elements of electro, IDM, and glitchy electronica with a strong appreciation for bleepy melodies, deep sub-bass, and dancefloor hooks.
Hayes performed and DJed at house parties, bars, and clubs across Ireland and the UK, sharing CDs and tracks online during the early days of Myspace.
A selection of these previously unreleased tracks and demos has since been rediscovered on old hard drives and laptops, remastered, and digitally released on streaming platforms as a restored archive of that era.
Hayes was also a member of the folktronica group Spool, touring throughout Ireland and the UK and releasing an EP in 2006 that earned Irish Times “CD of the Week”.
In 2025, after a hiatus from public-facing music performances, Hayes began a new electronic music project called Scoilt — the Irish word for “split” or “fissure” — with the intention of actively collaborating with other artists and musicians, leading to new releases and live performances.
